G’day #Name#,

Hope this finds you fit and well. Here is a bunch of what crossed my digital desk over the last week. I trust you get something from it!

The Scientific Method Then And Now
The Scientific Method Then And Now

I see all too many examples that validate this meme.

The difference between CRAZY and STUPID

A truck driver was doing his usual delivery to the mental hospital.

He discovered a flat tyre when he was about to go home.

He jacked up the truck and took the flat tyre down.

When he was about to fix the spare tyre, he accidentally dropped all the bolts into the drain.

Seeing no way to fish the bolts out of the drain, he panicked.

A patient happened to walk past and stopped to ask the driver what had happened.

The driver told the patient the whole incident.

The patient laughed at him and said, “You can’t even fix such a simple wonder you are destined to be a truck driver. Here’s what you do. Take one bolt each from the other three wheels and fix this wheel with them! Then drive to the nearest workshop and replace the missing ones, easy as that.”

The driver was very impressed and asked, “You’re so smart but why are you here at the mental hospital?”

The patient replied, “Hello! I stay here because I’m crazy, not because I’m stupid!”

It is true that sanity and intelligence are two completely different things. Intelligence enables one to solve problems. The more intelligent one is, the more problems one can solve.

I read once that sanity had to do with being able to create problems to solve. That the insane are too firmly fixed on one problem. They have too few.

So any time you find yourself too firmly fixed on one specific problem, mock up (create, imagine) problems of comparable magnitude until you feel less fixed on it.

These are not abilities of the piece of grey matter between our ears but rather properties of the being.

Many years ago, a newlywed young man was sitting on a couch on a hot, humid day, sipping frozen juice during a visit to his father. As he talked about adult life, marriage, responsibilities, and obligations, the father thoughtfully stirred the ice cubes in his glass and cast a clear, sober look on his son.

“Never forget your friends,” he advised, “they will become more important as you get older. Regardless of how much you love your family and the children you happen to have, you will always need friends. Remember to go out with them occasionally, do activities with them, call them ...”

“What strange advice!” thought the young man. “I just entered the married world, I am an adult and surely my wife and the family that we’ll start will be everything I need to make sense of my life.” Yet annually he increased the number and obeyed his father, and kept in touch with his friends. Over the years, he became aware that his father knew what he was talking about.

In as much as time and nature carry out their designs and mysteries on a man, friends were the bulwarks of his life. After 50 years of life, here is what he learned:

Time passes.
Life goes on.
The distance separates.
Children grow up.
Children cease to be children and become independent. And for the parents it breaks the heart but the children are separated of the parents.
Jobs come and go.
Illusions, desires, attraction, sex ... weaken.
People do not do what they should do.
The heart breaks.
The parents die.
Colleagues forget the favours.
The races are over.
But, true friends are always there, no matter how long or how many miles they are apart.

A friend is never more distant than the reach of a need, barring you, intervening in your favour, waiting for you with open arms or blessing your life.

When we started this adventure called LIFE, we did not know of the incredible joys or sorrows that were ahead. We did not know how much we would need from each other. Love your parents, take care of your children, but keep a group of good friends. Dialogue with them but do not impose your criteria.

Change the Rules So Large Corporations Pay Their Fair Share!

Big polluters like Chevron could soon be forced to pay their fair share of tax in upcoming budget announcements - and they’re fighting tooth and nail to stop this.

This broken system gives big polluters such generous tax deductions that no new revenue will be collected for decades to come. As a result, people like you and me are losing out on billions of dollars that could fund our schools, hospitals, and roads.

The Senate is running an inquiry into this tax right now. Submissions close in just a few days on 30th March. I added my voice, can you add yours too?

How to get to Heaven from Ireland

I was testing children in my Dublin Sunday school class to see if they understood the concept of getting to heaven.

I asked them, “If I sold me house and me car, had a big jumble sale and gave all me money to the church, would that get me into heaven?”

“No!” the children answered.

“If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the garden, and kept everything tidy, would that get me into heaven?”

Again, the answer was “No!” By now I was starting to smile.

“Well, then, if I was kind to animals and gave sweeties to all the children, and loved me husband, would that get me into heaven?”

Again, they all answered “No!” I was just bursting with pride for them.

I continued, “Then how can I get into heaven?”

A six year-old boy named Mark shouted out “YU'V GOTTA BE FUK'N DEAD.......”

An Irish Priest is Transferred to Texas

He rose from his bed one morning. It was a fine spring day in his new Texas mission parish.

He walked to the window of his bedroom to get a deep breath of the beautiful day outside.

He then noticed there was a jackass lying dead in the middle of his front lawn.

He promptly called the local police station. The conversation went like this:

“Good morning. This is Sergeant Jones. How might I help you?”

“And the best of the day to yourself. This is Father O’Malley at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. There’s a jackass lying dead in me front lawn and would ye be so kind as to send a couple o’ yer lads to take care of the matter.”

Sergeant Jones, considering himself to be quite a wit and recognizing the accent, thought he would have a little fun with the good father, replied, “Well now Father, it was always my impression that you people took care of the last rites.”

There was dead silence on the line for a long moment. Then, Father O’Malley replied, “Aye, ’tis certainly true; but we are also obliged to notify the next of kin first, which is the reason for me call.”
