I stopped by the lounge on my way upstairs from the kitchen and saw a few minutes of the TV show The Big Bang Theory. Maybe because I had the high Intelligence Quotient low Emotional Maturity Quotient contrast from that show on my mind but as I was resting for my next counselling session I got to thinking about a measurement scale for civilisations, cultures or countries.

You know how they have these assessment sheets for kids:
Plays well with peers
Respects other’s property
Respects other’s communications
Follows orders
Obeys rules

I wondered if anyone had ever come up with an assessment sheet for countries. Things like:
Provides a safe, stable and peaceful environment for its citizens and neighbouring countries to flourish and prosper
Facilitiates production and commerce for its citizens and trade with neighbours
Rewards those who produce and penalise non-production
Educates its citizens with true, workable data and marketable skills
Provides simple, workable rules to guide conduct and commerce
Allows as much freedom as possible within those limited rules
Provides truth based education on the risks and dangers of mind altering and addictive substances
Ensures affordable health care is available for the sick and injured
Ensures affordable, fast and just resolution for legal cases
Respects political opponents, dissenters and protestors
Accurately identifies and renders powerless then rehabilitates the 15-25% of people who are destructive
Rehabilitates the incarcerated
Seeks to rehabilitate rather than incarcerate offenders
Preserves their indigenous peoples and cultures

Enhances rather than pollutes their own and international lands and waters and air
Preserves and protects their native and wild flora and fauna
Preserves and improves their environment

Does not invade other countries or infringe on their commercial rights
Respects other’s sovereignty, borders and territorial rights
Maintains fair trading relationships
Comes to aid of neighbouring countries in their need
Does not spy on their neighbours
Does not attempt to weaken or diminish the power, resources, population or culture of other sovereign states
Obeys international laws and signed treaties

There would be few that scored well on such a scale methinks.

As I look over that quickly created list it seems to me that it comes down to this. If you admire and respect other people, viewpoints, groups, nations and the environment, then you don’t do things that will harm, you do things that will help.

I think we need to formulate a better process for arriving at who we select to lead out countries as the current processes have not yielded the most desirable result! We need to start selecting leaders on the basis of an excellent production record of leadership and sustainable and viable expansion under their leadership.

That way we would stand a far better chance of having our culture outlive our grandchildren!

Top quotes from article: “ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) investing is no longer merely a vehicle only for so-called socially responsible investors. Increasingly, the process goes to the heart of investing fundamentals.”

According to the B of A report, “ESG is the best measure we’ve found for signaling future risk,“ superior to leverage or other risk and quality factors. Moreover, “90 percent of bankruptcies in the S&P 500 between 2005 and 2015 were of companies with poor Environmental and Social scores five years prior to the bankruptcies,” the analysts wrote.

“Because if the goal is to fix the broken food system, as stated by the CEO of Mars, the truth is you can’t fix a broken food system with a broken financial system.”

Lake Michigan Ice

The polar vortex has kept Lake Michigan frozen throughout the winter. And in Chicago, temperatures dropped up to -30C (-23F) during the peak of the cold season, causing ice shelves to form on the lake.

The ice shelves were formed when water waves underneath crashed over the existing piles of ice in the lake. But the lake will soon return to its usual form.

Spring is bringing warmer weather throughout the region, melting the ice and transforming the lake into a magical spectacle.

The moving water beneath the ice is pushing the ice plates to the surface, and breaking them into attractive patterns which are visible from the South Haven’s pier.

Pretty simple, really. Start by banning psychiatry and its practice. After all, the rot started from them. As all bad conditions do. The then president of the world federaton of mental health, one Brock Chisholm, said in 1947 that the goal of psychiatry was the eradication of the concepts of right and wrong, good and evil. And that to achieve their objectives they needed to infiltrate the professions, which they did.

We see the result of their handiwork at every turn. Rapidly declining moral and ethical standards, rampart drug use, illiteracy, inability to communicate or think clearly and assign correct cause to situations... ...all these can be traced directly back to psychiatry.

Tree Roots Linking

Trees are scientifically proven to be WAY more intelligent than we ever imagined!

“They can feel pain, [and] have emotions, such as fear. Trees like to stand close together and cuddle. They love company and like to take things slow.” These are just some of tree-whisperer Peter Wohlleben’s findings. Peter is a German researcher who not only enjoy being surrounded by trees, he has devoted his life to studying them.

“There is in fact friendship among trees,” he says. “They can form bonds like an old couple, where one looks after the other. Trees have feelings.”

Intelligent Trees is a new documentary is by German forester, author, and tree expert, Peter Wohlleben, along with Suzanne Simard, who is an ecologist from the University of British Columbia. Watch the trailer below to get a glimpse into it.

Not only that, but trees are also believed to have something similar to what we would call a heartbeat.

Dr András Zlinszky at Aarhus University, Denmark, used a laser scanning technique to measure the exact location of branches and leaves of 22 tree and shrub species. Last year he published observations of substantial unexpected movement cycles. Science has found some trees raise and lower their branches several times in the course of the night, indicating a cycle of water and sugar transportation, like their own version of a heartbeat.

“We detected a previously unknown periodic movement of up to 1 centimeter (0.4 inches) in cycles of two to six hours,” Zlinszky said in a statement. “The movement has to be connected to variations in water pressure within the plants, and this effectively means that the tree is pumping. Water transport is not just a steady-state flow, as we previously assumed.”

During the night some trees lower their branches by up to 10 centimeters (4 inches) before raising them again with the Sun. The process is so slow and subtle until recently we thought only certain families do it, but we are now learning it is more widespread.

Most distinctively, a magnolia (Magnolia gradiflora) goes through three full cycles of adjusting its branches, indicating changing water pressure and therefore pumping during the course of a night.

Abbott’s ‘foreign interference’ fiasco a chilling message

Having heard successive Australian governments insist for almost twenty years that “If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear” from their increasingly totalitarian “national security” laws, it’s tempting to laugh at the news that former Liberal Prime Minister Tony Abbott had fallen afoul of the Foreign Influence Transparency Scheme (FITS) his own party introduced in 2018. But in truth, it is no laughing matter. The pursuit of Abbott over a speech to a conference convened by a conservative American political group may be the result of even-handed enforcement of a bad law, but is more likely intended as a message to the foreign-policy dissidents who have always been the scheme’s real targets. Either way, it vindicates the warnings of the Citizens Electoral Council and many others that the FITS is an unacceptable affront to the freedom of speech and association that are supposed to be cornerstones of our so-called democracy.

In what amounts to dissension from National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) climate change policy, a series of just-released studies by working-level scientists prove that geological and not atmospheric forces are responsible for melting of Earth’s polar ice sheets.

Countries With The Highest Levels Of Poverty For Retirees

Pensioner Poverty Rates

A recent report showed that 12.6 percent of people aged 65 and over in OECD countries are living in relative income poverty. That is defined as an income below half the national median equivalised household income. Older women are at greater risk of poverty than men with “the older old” (75 and older) falling on hard times more frequently than “the younger old” (aged 66-75).

Tom: The disturbing thing is that the money taken from wages in taxation that was supposed to fund our pension was not set aside by successive Australian governments, contrary to prudential bookkeeping standards. Companies are now fined for what the government has been doing for decades - taking people’s money for a future benefit and not setting it aside.

Physicist: CO2 Retains Heat For Only 0.0001 Seconds, Warming Not Possible

atmosphere

SkepticalScience, a blog spearheaded by climate science “consensus” advocate John Cook, is widely considered the explanatory guidebook for the anthropogenic global warming movement.

The blog claims that CO2 molecules collectively function similar to that of a blanket, in reducing the rate at which the human body cools down. The rate or time-lapse involved in this “slowing” of heat loss, however, is problematic to the paradigm that says CO2 drives global warming.

Going technical for a minute, Professor Nasif Nahle has discovered that the “mean free path” for a quantum wave to pass through the atmosphere before colliding with a CO2 molecule is about 33 meters (Nahle, 2011a), and such a wide gap between molecular collisions hardly conjures-up the image of CO2 functioning like a blanket.

And even more saliently, Nahle has mathematically assessed that the rate at which CO2 molecules can retain heat at the surface may only last about 0.0001 of a second (Nahle, 2011b) — meaning that the atmospheric CO2 concentration, whether it be 300 PPM or 400 PPM, effectively doesn’t matter — the time-lapse differential would be immaterial for either concentration.

Consequently, Nahle has concluded that “carbon dioxide has not an effect on climate changes or warming periods on the Earth” and his work has been endorsed by the Faculty of Physics of the University of Nuevo Leon (Mexico).

Until next time,
dream big dreams,
plan out how to achieve them,
be continually executing your plans,
enlist people to your causes,
travel and/or read widely, preferably both,
all the while observing what you observe
rather than thinking what you are told to think,
think well of your fellow man,
take time to help your fellow man,
he sorely needs it and it will help you too,
eat food that is good for your body,
exercise your body,
take time to destress,
and do the important things
that make a difference -
they are rarely the urgent ones!
