Tom’s Weekly Tips, Links and Tidbits Newsletter

Wednesday 18th April 2012

G’day,

I trust this finds you fit and well. Got a really interesting collection for you this week. I have an amazing group of people who share much more with me than I have time to absorb, digest and pass on. Let alone doing what I need to do to make a dollar. :-)

You Are Somebody

I Am Somebody

So are you! You are somebody!
Somebody to be reckoned with.
You have purpose, intelligence, drive, passion.
Even if you are not yet manifesting your full abilities, you have them.
NOW is the time to recognise, harness and maximize your talents for the greater good.
The world desperately needs more good people doing more good works right now.
If you don’t know your calling, take some time out and identify it.
If you can’t identify your basic purpose in life, contact me. I can help.
If you already know your calling, ask yourself the following questions:
What could I do to double or quadruple my present level of production?
How could I get my message to 5 times the present number of people who receive it?
How could I attain my 5 year target in one year?

Getting On Your Basic Purpose

Right now you probably don’t have the time to give this the thought it deserves. Don’t let it fall through the cracks. Grab your diary and find an hour to spare then block it out to study how this diagram relates to you. During that hour, identify your place in the centre of the circles.

Tasered to Death on Suspicion of Stealing Biscuits

I recently signed the petition to demand justice for Roberto Laudisio Curti, a student who was tasered to death in Australia. Will you join me? http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AGkV0/zmsV/OFpD

Brazilian student Roberto Laudisio Curti, 21, was tasered to death by policemen merely on suspicion of taking biscuits from a convenience story in Sydney.

According to several news sources, after hearing from the shop attendant that Curti had acted strangely at the store and run out without paying for a small package, six police officers chased him down and used deadly force.

This, even though Curti was unarmed and did nothing to threaten anyone’s life. Following a set of three shocks, he was knocked to the pavement and could not be revived.

I’d hate to think something like this could happen to you or someone you love because we did nothing to protest this tragedy. Please join me in demanding that Australia crack down on taser use by their police forces, so this never happens again. Will you join me?

Button batteries: tiny but dangerous

Button batteries found in many household electronic devices pose a considerable risk for young children, according to a new campaign by Energizer, Kidsafe and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

The Battery Controlled campaign is calling on parents to keep coin-sized batteries out of reach of children, get help fast if swallowed and to spread the word about the danger.

Top 10 herbs and spices for strengthening your immune system

The body’s defense system is only as dependable as the support it gets. Some people are just blessed with a good set of genes that ensure a strong immune system. For others who are not as lucky, they must work for immunity by observing proper nutrition, sufficient rest, a healthy active lifestyle, plenty of sun and reduced stress. Recent studies have shown that getting enough of these while cutting down on unhealthy habits and avoiding processed foods restores the immune system to peak performance.

Humour

The English Plural According to George Carlin

We’ll begin with a box, and the plural is boxes,
But the plural of ox becomes oxen, not oxes;
One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose should never be meese;
You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice,
Yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.

If the plural of man is always called men,
Why shouldn’t the plural of pan be called pen?
If I speak of my foot and show you my feet,
And I give you a boot, would a pair be called beet?
If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth,
Why shouldn’t the plural of booth be called beeth?

Then one may be that, & three would be those,
Yet hat in the plural would never be hose;
And the plural of cat is cats, not cose.
We speak of a brother & also of brethren,
But though we say mother, we never say methren.
Then the masculine pronouns are he, his & him,
But imagine the feminine: she, shis & shim !

Let’s face it - English is a crazy language.
There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger;
Neither apple nor pine in pineapple.
English muffins weren’t invented in England.

We take English for granted,
But if we explore its paradoxes,
We find that quicksand can work slowly,
Boxing rings are square;
A guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.
Why is it that writers write, but fingers don’t fing,
Grocers don’t groce & hammers don’t ham?

Doesn’t it seem crazy that ...
You can make amends but not one amend?
If you have a bunch of odds and ends ...
And get rid of all but one of them,
What do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn’t preachers praught?
If a vegetarian eats vegetables,
What does a humanitarian eat?

Sometimes I think all people who speak English
Should be in an asylum for the verbally insane.
In what other language do people recite at a play,
And play at a recital?

We ship by truck but send cargo by ship ...
We have noses that run & feet that smell;
We park in a driveway & drive in a parkway.
And how can a slim chance & a fat chance be the same,
While a wise man & a wise guy are opposites?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language
In which your house can burn up as it burns down;
In which you fill in a form by filling it out,
& in which an alarm goes off by going on.
And in closing ....

If Father is Pop...
How come Mother’s not Mop?

Iceland Protest

Iceland Subverts Suppression

Something I found interesting from Facebook. This is a copy so please excuse the incorrect grammar.

No news from Iceland… why? How come we hear everything that happens in Egypt but no news about what’s happening in Iceland:

In Iceland, the people has made the government resign, the primary banks have been nationalized, it was decided to not pay the debt that these created with Great Britain and Holland due to their bad financial politics and a public assembly has been created to rewrite the constitution. And all of this in a peaceful way.

A whole revolution against the powers that have created the current crisis. This is why there hasn’t been any publicity during the last two years: What would happen if the rest of the EU citizens took this as an example? What would happen if the US citizens took this as an example.

This is a summary of the facts:

2008. The main bank of the country is nationalized. The Krona, the currency of Iceland devaluates and the stock market stops. The country is in bankruptcy

2008. The citizens protest in front of parliament and manage to get new elections that make the resignation of the prime minister and his whole government. The country is in bad economic situation. A law proposes paying back the debt to Great Britain and Holland through the payment of 3,500 million euros, which will be paid by the people of Iceland monthly during the next 15 years, with a 5.5% interest.

2010. The people go out in the streets and demand a referendum. In January 2010 the president denies the approval and announces a popular meeting.

In March the referendum and the denial of payment is voted in by 93%. Meanwhile the government has initiated an investigation to bring to justice those responsible for the crisis, and many high level executives and bankers are arrested. The Interpol dictates an order that make all the implicated parties leave the country.

In this crisis an assembly is elected to rewrite a new Constitution which can include the lessons learned from this, and which will substitute the current one (a copy of the Danish Constitution). 25 citizens are chosen, with no political affiliation, out of the 522 candidates. For candidacy all that was needed was to be an adult and have the support of 30 people. The constitutional assembly starts in February of 2011 to present the 'carta magna’ from the recommendations given by the different assemblies happening throughout the country. It must be approved by the current Parliament and by the one constituted through the next legislative elections.

So in summary of the Icelandic revolution:
-resignation of the whole government
-nationalization of the bank.
-referendum so that the people can decide over the economic decisions.
-incarceration of the responsible parties.
-rewriting of the constitution by its people.

Have we been informed of this through the media? No!

Has any political program in radio or TV commented on this? No!

The Icelandic people have been able to show that there is a way to beat the system and has given a democracy lesson to the world.
